Rumors have been running rampant on twitter today that Greg Kerkvliet COULD be suiting up for PSU at the BIG 10 Championship in just two weeks. Kerkvliet was a high school stud who had a roundabout way of reaching the Nittany Lions room. After initially committing to Minnesota he switched his commitment to OK State before eventually signing with Ohio State. Kerkvliet enrolled at Ohio State this fall before transferring to PSU, just after Kyle Snyder announced he would be moving to the NLWC.
According to Pat Mineo, Cael is waiting for the NCAA's ruling on Kerkvliet's eligibility for this season and if he is approved he will start over Seth Nevills at the BIG 10 Championship. Seth Nevill's has performed well after stepping in for Anthony Cassar midway through this season, going 13-3 and is currently ranked 17th by Intermat and 18th by Flowrestling at 285 pounds. Kerkvliet has also competed this season, albeit unattached for PSU, wrestling to a 9-0 record collegiately and placing 3rd at the US Senior Nationals in freestyle. Both wrestlers are good options for PSU but many consider Kerkvliet to be a title contender right away should he be ruled eligible.
The result of this decision could have huge implications for the team title at the NCAA tournament as PSU is looking to knock off Iowa and retain their national title.
